she was smart… she was funny… and she was a fellow believer in copious amounts of mascara. the level of my sadness at the passing of joan rivers has taken me by surprise. for the most part, celebrity deaths do not rattle me. this feels different. joan rivers paved the way for funny women. dirty jokes no longer belong to the boys. she helped women take back our sexuality and own our desire to look and feel our best, even if that sometimes means a nip and a tuck. our bodies, our words, and our lives are ours to do with as we please. joan rivers helped that cause until the moment she took her last breath. thank you ms. rivers.
