on the daily
my mister and i are on a mission to be more mindful of our energy this year. i have always found visual reminders helpful in guiding me on whatever journey i may be on. if you take even a quick look around my house you will find affirmation cards, post it notes, chalk boards with bible verses, and motivational pick me ups in nearly every nook and cranny.
my mother came across the idea of chalk blessing your home for the feast of the epiphany. basically the blessing is a way to invite god into your home on the daily.
on or before january sixth you chalk your front door with a series of letters, numbers, and symbols (for 2020 it would be: 20 + C + M + B + 20) and recite a prayer. the letters represent the three wise men (casper, melchior, and balthazar) but also serve as an abbreviation of the latin phrase christus mansionem benedicat or may christ bless the house. the numbers correspond with the current year. the plus signs are indicative of the cross.
we read the following prayer (found on the interweb) while we chalked:
Visit, O blessed Lord, this home with the gladness of your presence. Bless all who live or visit here with the gift of your love; and grant that we may manifest your love to each other and to all whose lives we touch. May we grow in grace and in the knowledge and love of you; guide, comfort, and strengthen us in peace, O Jesus Christ, now and for ever. Amen.
